Jason And The Argonauts.

When a hero embarks on a journey back in Ancient Greece, most of them fit into the cycle of the hero, developed by Joseph Campbell. It basically outlines the life of the hero, and looking if there's any changes of the hero before and after the quest. Many features from the chronicle of Jason and the Argonauts, fit into this cycle. Aspects such as...
Birth/Home: Ioclus, the rightful king of the throne, had a son named Jason. It was Jason's uncle, Pelias, who stole the throne from his father and claimed the kingdom. In that case, Jason's mother hid Jason from Pelias for if he heard about Jason's existence, he would never hesitate to order someone to murder him.

Call To Adventure: When Jason grew older, he went up to Pelias, confronted him and ordered him to give back the throne. In response, Pelias stated that if Jason could bring him the Golden Fleece, the kingdom is all his.

Elixir: Jason's elixir was the Golden Fleece. It was the only thing he was searching for, the only thing he could be remembered for doing.

Helpers: The helpers for Jason in the story, was the Argonauts. The Argonauts were a group of powerful people, such as Hercules, Orpheus, and Atalanta. Each one of them were a big help to Jason, and it could be possible that without them, the quest would have never been completed.

Crossing The Threshold: To reach the Golden Fleece, Jason and the Argonauts have to get through the Black Sea and onwards to the kingdom of King Aeëtes
. In the sea, they had to battle against the strong currents, and get over the obstacles, like the rocks, that were tempted to crash them down.

Helpers/Amulet: The Chiron and the swo
rd was Jason's helper and amulet. Both gave Jason a chance to fight and make him believe in himself that he can do it, when he's about to give up.

Tests: During the quest, Jason and the Argonauts went through loads of tests. Just like; the rocks and the strong currents in the sea, the fire-breathing bulls and the dragon who guarded the Golden Fleece. Every one of the test that was faced, proved how brave and brawny Jason and the Argonauts were.

Climax/Final Battle: (Cartoon) The climax of Jason and the Argonaut's journey was when the Argonauts were almost in the Underworld, and Jason had no other choice but to fight Medea. And so he did. With Chiron's sword, he was able to thrash Medea. After that, the Argonauts were freed, and Jason was able to seize the Golden Fleece.

Return/Flight: After all the fighting and struggling, Jason and the Argonauts traveled back to Jason's kingdom by sea smoothly, and prepared to take the throne away from Pelias.

There is a large assortment of versions based on Jason and the Argonauts. In some adaptions, Aphrodite puts a spell on Medea, making her fall in love with Jason. That way, Medea helps Jason accomplish his quest. But in other adaptions, Medea's rather evil, and so she uses black magic on Jason to prevent him from accomplishing his quest - which is just like the cartoons, posted in Mrs. P's/the grade 7 blog.

Another difference between the other versions of the tale, and the cartoon, was Jason's personality on his strength. In the stories I've read, he's quite weak, and depends a lot on the Argonauts to help him at all times. But in the cartoon, he was strong, and much braver, a plucky hero - as if he was a leader to pilot the Argonauts and is willing to save anyone at any time. He's has a totally differen
t personality in those two interpretations.

There is tons of evidence to support each fact and belief that the many essentials of Jason and the Argonauts are true and/or may have occurred before in the past, once. Maybe so, there was no Gods, who casts evil or any spells for that matter, but it's a possibility that the quest that Jason had been through could have taken place. Below, are the evidences that I have collected while watching the documentary in Humanities class...
  • Mount Pelion; where Jason's journey takes place, does exist.
  • Jason and the Argonauts were the first to sail past the Black Sea; where it's very dangerous, with the strong currents and tides.
  • The first quest was on the real island of Lemnos, Greece.
  • Found the Bronze-Aged Palace of Jason; which obtained many artifacts and debris.
  • Georgia is the "Land Of The Golden Fleece".
  • Argo was the name of the boat; ancient techniques of making boats was used to craft the boat that Jason and the Argonauts used to sail through the Black Sea.
  • 1400 B.C. was the time of the quest.
  • Istanbul is where they went.
  • Story occurred in the time of the Trojan War; which is a true event.
  • There is a sacred cave with drawings of Jason.
  • The exact cliff where the Lemnian women murdered their men, exist.

The story of Jason and the Argonauts is the greatest mythical quest of antiquity.
A tale of passion, jealousy and betrayal, terrifying monsters and evil sorcery. It tells about the expedition of a young hero seeking the magical Golden Fleece, just for the sake of his kingdom. He was determined, and he will not let anything stop him from reaching his ambition.

Even though there are many interpretations of the myth, there are many similarities amongst them too. No matter how, when, or where it is held, the legend will always speak the story of the great lad, they call Jason. There's no denying about all the different ways that you hear about the story, it'll always end the same way.

With all the substantial amount of evidences said and done, it suggest that the fable is more than a myth. After all, it is possible that the factual heroic journey have occurred in the very past. It is most likely though.
